In what way could visitors coming to Keszthely be more warmly welcome than with this magic, versatile panorama of Balaton which Keszthely lives and breathe together with.
Keszthely is said to be the town of memories. – Those who have spent here any kind of resting or relaxation even if it was some years before know what it means and sure to have pleasant memories of the time having been spent here. Walking under the maple-trees on the shore, a cruise on the board of Helka, or the disco ship, having dinner in Restaurant, having party at the pavilions are pleasant way of having rest.
The memories from distant past are also greeting us: the two old hotel buildings, Balaton Hotel and Hullám Hotel built at the end of the 19th century calling up the age of Monarchy, as well as Balaton’s only island bath remained in perfect condition and later renovated in its original condition which belongs to the Municipal beach. Among the three beaches in Keszthely this is the most beautifully built up beach. Libás beach is found in a beautiful environment, beside which the new sailing port of the town has been built.
Sights in Keszthely
Besides these sights Keszthely is proud of having many things to see and visit. Festetics Palace which became the symbol of the town is the third biggest and the most beautifully restored palace in Hungary can be visited at night as well in the summer season. Either a classical music concert in the Mirror Gallery or an open air theatre performance under the hundred-year old trees may be a worthy ending of the day.
In one of the evocative café’s terrace of the pedestrian precinct lain between the Palace and the Main Square it is pleasant feeling to be sipping a cup of coffee and marvelling the ancient buildings. There is no lack in programs as well. In the course of series of festivals organised by Balaton Congress Centre and Theatre you may have a nice entertainment. The venue of this festival is often the pedestrian precinct. The colourful commotion is completed with portrait painters, ice-cream sellers, street musicians, and with handicraftsmen selling different kinds of knick-knacks.
Those who prefer peace and quiet might wish to go for a stroll under the hundred-year old maple trees of Helikon Park but the ’town of museums’ has a lot to see for those who are in love with history or arts. In Balaton Museum besides the flora and fauna of the Lake Balaton. the Roman Age reference and ethnographical references of this countryside are presented as well. The Georgikon Agricultural History Museum shows the agricultural development of the countryside and of the agricultural college. The dolls dressed in national costumes in The Doll Museum, and the life-sized wax figures of famous people of the Panoptikum are interesting sights for many tourists. The Shell Parliament is an attractive attraction for everybody. Among the newest sights the exhibition of historic model railway, the Radio and Television Museum or the renovated Julia Szendrey’s Native House can be mentioned- do not miss them!
We wish a pleasant surfing for all the visitors here on our homepage and in the real town as well.
