Roman spring

Roman spring

Interesting facts (Good to know)

The villa rustica used to be a farm-like centre with many buildings for agricultural and other purposes besides the residential building.

The Roman spring is located near Szépkilátó by the foot of the stone stairway, which was renovated by the Association for Youth in Balatongyörök in 2009. The ruins of a 3rd or 4th century Roman villa (villa rustica) were discovered nearby. The villa must have been one of the more prestigious Roman buildings because it had a separate bath as well. The edifice with its length of 11.9 m and width of 15.1 m comprised five rooms, each fitted with floor-heating powered by the spring water coming from the bath.
